12 Verified Open Calls for Printmakers in 2026

By EntryThingy

EntryThingy printmaking calls search

When you search for printmaking calls online, you get two problems: general "art calls" where you have to guess if prints count, or "works on paper" shows that might only want watercolors.

I built this list to fix that. I searched EntryThingy for calls that specifically accept printmaking and found 191 open opportunities. Then I picked 12 that are currently open, verified, and clearly state they accept hand-pulled prints.

Every call here includes printmaking as an accepted medium with clear submission terms, so you're not guessing whether your etchings, linocuts, or serigraphs qualify.

How I Built This List of Printmaking Calls

I started on EntryThingy's calls dashboard and filtered by medium: Printmaking.

That search returned 191 printmaking active calls from galleries, museums, festivals, and nonprofits across the country and internationally. You can see how the filter works in the screenshot below.

EntryThingy printmaking filter screenshot

From there, I narrowed things down using additional filters. You can sort by deadline month if you're working around a studio schedule, by location if you need regional opportunities, or by "Free only" if you're managing application costs.

Then I manually reviewed each call against three criteria:

  • Printmaking-specific value: Does this opportunity specifically welcome printmaking, or is "works on paper" code for "watercolors only"? Are hand-pulled prints, limited editions, and monoprints clearly accepted? Does the juror or organizer have printmaking experience?
  • Organizer legitimacy: Is this run by a real gallery, museum, arts council, or nonprofit with a track record? Can I verify their previous printmaking exhibitions or programming?
  • Clear requirements: Are submission terms straightforward? Do they explain edition numbers, signing requirements, size limits, and whether digital prints or giclees are excluded?

The 12 calls in this list include the entry fees, what you get in return (exhibition, prizes, exposure), and clear deadlines. Where fees apply, I've explained what makes it worth applying.

Not sure if the entry fees are worth it? We broke down how much art call entry fees cost in 2026 by region and medium. Worth a look before you apply.

Stamford Art Association is a Connecticut-based arts organization operating The Townhouse Gallery and presenting juried exhibitions with professional artists as jurors. SAA has a track record of hosting themed exhibitions with clear criteria and professional standards for framing, wiring, and presentation.

The juror, Barbara Mathis, is a working figurative painter with exhibition credits at the Katonah Museum, Pen and Brush, and Greenwich Arts Society. That background matters: she's looking at figurative work through a painter's eye, which tends to be sympathetic to monotype portraits, figure studies, and intaglio-based work.

If you also work in painting, we put together a separate list of open calls for painters worth checking out.

One practical note worth knowing: prints must be signed and numbered as limited editions, and giclees are explicitly excluded. This is a hand-pulled print show, which actually makes it a more meaningful opportunity for traditional printmakers.

Submission Highlights:

  • Images: 1 to 9 works (up to 9 entries per artist)

The booth fee ($515) is substantial but reflects a high-traffic downtown location with free public admission and extensive promotion. Printmakers benefit from the two-day format allowing collectors to return after initial viewing.

7. Urban Landscapes – Stamford, CT

Urban Landscapes exhibition

Stamford Art Association seeks multimedia work exploring urban landscapes for exhibition at The Ferguson Library in Connecticut, with cash prizes and a five-month exhibition run through August 2026.

  • Organization: Stamford Art Association
  • Medium: All media (multimedia juried exhibition)
  • Eligibility: Artists from across disciplines and experience levels

  • Exhibition Dates: March 29 to August 27, 2026. Opening Reception: April 9

"Urban Landscapes" is on display at The Ferguson Library, not a traditional gallery, which is actually a plus. Libraries get consistent foot traffic from people who aren't already plugged into the art world, and a five-month run gives your work real time to be discovered.

For printmakers, the theme is a natural fit. Cities are full of the kind of detail that translates beautifully to print: worn facades, fire escapes, shadow patterns on pavement, the grain of concrete.

Whether you work in relief, lithography, or monoprint, urban subject matter tends to carry well in printed form. And if you work in series, a five-month window means collectors can come back, which they often do.

Submission Highlights:

  • Images: 1 to 5 works (up to 5 entries per artist)
  • File formats: JPG only, max 5MB
  • Artist notification: Week of March 23, 2026
  • Delivery: Hand delivery only on March 26 and March 28
  • Important: All work must be wired for hanging (no storage available; late pickup subject to $10/day handling fee). Prints must be signed and numbered as limited editions (no giclees), work must be original and created by the artist.

Creative Cauldron Art Center is a Virginia-based gallery with strict professional standards for hanging and shipping. The gallery insures all work on loan during exhibition hours and provides monitoring after hours.

The theme "Delicious" gives you a lot of room. It can be literal (fruit, food, the pleasure of a meal) or something more personal, like desire, memory, or the satisfaction of making something with your hands. Relief prints, botanical etchings, layered monoprints, there's no shortage of directions to take it.

The entry fee is low at $15 per work (up to 3 entries), the jury decision comes back fast, and the gallery has clear professional standards for how work is presented. It's a low-risk call worth putting on your list.

Submission Highlights:

  • Images: 1 to 3 images per entry (can submit up to 3 separate entries total)
  • File formats: GIF, JPG, MOV, MP4, PNG (max 1000MB per image)

If you're shipping your work, include a pre-paid return shipping label.

  • Organization: Arc Studios & Gallery
  • Medium: Printmaking (plus sculpture, painting, drawing, photo, ceramics, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, multiple media) – paper must be central component

  • Exhibition Dates: June 20 to July 18, 2026

Arc Studios & Gallery runs thoughtful themed shows in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood, and "Paper" is one of the more interesting calls for printmakers right now. The theme isn't just "work on paper" — it's asking what paper can actually do. Where does it stop being a surface and start being the work itself? That's a question printmakers are well placed to answer.

The juror is Donna Seager, a gallerist and curator who has spent over 30 years working closely with paper-based and book arts.

She's run her own annual Art of the Book exhibition since 2005 and has curated shows for institutions like the Institute of Contemporary Art San Jose. She understands the material deeply, which means your prints won't be reviewed by someone who sees paper as an afterthought.

Submission Highlights:

  • Categories accepted: 1-3 images per entry, max 2 entries per artist
  • Important: Paper must be a central component of the work (surface, substrate, or sculptural element)
  • Not accepted: Jewelry, video, film, performance art, works requiring external electrical source, installation
  • Awards: Three $250 awards plus ribbon, certificate, and catalog

  • Exhibition Dates: June 11 to September 13, 2026

Touchstones Rochdale and Parker Harris run the competition, and the venues are the real deal: the Millennium Gallery at Sheffield Museums Trust, then the National Football Museum in Manchester.

For printmakers, football is genuinely rich territory. The energy of a match, the culture around it, the way it ties together identity and community and place, all of that translates well to print. And the competition is open to all two-dimensional work, so whether you work in relief, screenprint, lithography, or monoprint, you're in.

The first prize is £5,000, shortlisted artists are featured in both a virtual gallery and a printed catalog, and entries are open internationally.

  • Medium: Any two-dimensional medium including printmaking (all forms accepted)
  • First Prize: £5,000

There's something genuinely appealing about that kind of exhibition. No gallery gatekeeping, just art where people actually walk by.

For printmakers based in the Monadnock region, this is an easy one to add to your calendar. Prints tend to work beautifully in window displays, strong composition, clear imagery, and bold color all read well from the street.

The event runs for 10 days in June, and the $40 entry fee is waived entirely for college students, which makes it a great entry point for emerging printmakers studying at regional schools. Up to 5 visiting artists from outside the region are also accepted, so it's worth applying even if you're not strictly local.

Find More Printmaking Calls on EntryThingy

Finding good printmaking calls takes time. A lot of "open calls" that show up in searches don't actually specify whether hand-pulled prints qualify, and nobody wants to pay an entry fee just to find out their medium wasn't really welcome. EntryThingy filters by medium, so you can search specifically for printmaking and see only calls that explicitly accept it.

Right now, there are over 120 active listings. You can narrow them down by deadline, location, or entry fee (including free calls if you're watching your budget).
