The call for entries deadline The deadline. It's a scary thing. And it can have many different meanings. In real life anyway. First off, it might be a good idea to see what the dictionary says:A date on or before which something must be completed. (I must make this deadline or my boss will kill me!)
Now this seems to be what we all mean when we say 'deadline' as in a 'Call for entries deadline' - but if we're truthful, and we're talking about deadlines in real life... well, they're not as impermeable as the definition implies.
It seems there are 3 basic scenarios:- The deadline is in fact the last day entries may be submitted. If you're late - well - you're out of luck.
- The deadline is the last day that new entries are accepted - but shows or entrants may find errors in entries and want to allow entrants to correct these mistakes.
- There's a normal deadline and a late deadline. If you submit your entry after the normal deadline, there will be some sort of penalty - such as an increased jury fee.
EntryThingy is pretty unforgiving when it comes to the deadline. If it has passed - well - then you just can't add or edit your entry. What is done in most cases, when an entry needs to be corrected, is that the deadline date is moved up and the entrant has a small window of time to make the correction. Now this can lead to confusion because others might think "Hey look! They pushed out the deadline - I can still sneak in here!"
The solution Now there's a Deadline for Late Entries. If you decide to set a deadline for late entries for a show, entrants that add or edit an entry after the initial deadline has passed will get a message to that effect, pointing them to the entry instructions where you can spell out exactly what it means when they add or edit their entry during this time.
